Today's chord uses a very standard 3-note G7 voicing (a Freddie Green styled root and guide tones voicing) and adds a 4th on top. This creates a little minor 2nd bite to it! From a theory standpoint, this is a G Mixolydian voicing.
In the musical example, I played a I-VI-ii-V and used today's voicing as part of this comping/chord melody phrase.
